The 2016 edition of IISER Pune’s in-house student magazine Kalpa has won the second runner-up prize in ‘educational institutes’ category at this year’s In-House Communication Excellence (ICE) Awards.
The ICE Awards were instituted in 2009 by the Shailaja Nair Foundation to recognise in-house magazines of organisations. They promote the print medium as a means of communication and honour the talent, creativity, time and energy that go into the endeavour. ICE Awards now get close to 700 entries each year for these awards in various categories. During the ceremony, Dr Sonali Nair commended Kalpa on the excellent quality of the magazine.
IISER Pune is just completing ten years of existence and this year’s Kalpa was themed around this 10-year journey, in tandem with ten editions of the magazine. The section on this theme was aptly named Dekada. The edition has all the regular Kalpa features like accounts of various academic and co-curricular activities of the year; stories, articles and poetry in various languages; and photo features welcoming new students/faculty and bidding farewell to the graduating ones. Alongside, the Dekada section has contributions from senior faculty members, narrating stories about the various stages and phases of the decade-long journey of IISER Pune. To mirror Kalpa’s voyage through the years, the editors of previous versions have recounted their experiences of bringing out each edition.
Despite being a relatively new academic institute, IISER Pune’s Kalpa has found a place at the top amidst other very established national and international organisations like Sophia College, Reserve Bank of India, The Tata Steel Group, IIT Mumbai, Bombay Natural History Society (BNHS), Hindustan Copper, etc.
Congratulations to the student editors Divya Singh and Mekhala Kumar, faculty coordinator Dr Richa Rikhy and the entire team of Kalpa for this well-deserved recognition.
