IISER Pune hosted the tenth International Symposium on Bioorganic Chemistry (ISBOC-10) from 11th to 15th January 2015. The ISBOC series of symposia, organized once every three years, brings together leading researchers in the field of chemical biology to exchange ideas and share their latest scientific findings. The highlight of this year’s symposium, co-convened by Prof. K.N. Ganesh (Director, IISER Pune), was the keynote address by 2013 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, Prof. Arieh Warshel (University of Southern California, USA). More than sixty plenary and invited lectures were given by prominent chemical biologists from 17 countries across the globe. The ongoing research in diverse areas of biological chemistry was presented and discussed. The five-day event was well-attended by scientists from various parts of the country.
The conference also saw an enthusiastic participation by students. Nearly 200 students from IISER Pune and other organizations presented their data in the form of posters. The two poster sessions were the scene of intense discussions as participants deliberated their research topics. The industry was represented by over 20 companies from various countries. Participants could also visit stalls set up by these companies to find out about the newest range of scientific products. The visiting scientists and students also had the opportunity to explore the IISER Pune campus and visit the laboratories. –Reported by Apurva Barve
